Defender’s loan expires in two weeks time, but he wants to remain at the club

Ayo Obileye’s loan deal at Dagenham & Redbridge is set to end in a fortnight’s time, but the Charlton Athletic defender wants to extend his stay at Victoria Road.

The 20-year-old has been a huge hit since moving at the end of November and featured 10 times under Wayne Burnett – starting nine matches.

Daggers have enjoyed more positive results with the talented youngster in the team as they have picked up three victories and kept four clean sheets when he has started.

And Burnett will be pleased to know the loan star would like to remain at the club.

“I am enjoying my time at Dagenham. The gaffer has given me the opportunity to play games and I am very happy with that,” said Obileye.

“I really appreciate it and I thank him. I am just trying to keep my head down and be humble and keep working hard in training.

“The loan ends on February 7 but I would love to stay here to get more games, more minutes and still play in the league - that would be great. I am hoping I can stay and kick on really.”

Obileye has formed a strong partnership with Scott Doe over the past month and despite last weekend’s defeat to Northampton Town it seems to be improving game by game.

Although he has only been at Dagenham for two months, he is enjoying himself at Victoria Road.

“It feels like I have been here for a while and it is great. I really love it here,” Obileye added.

“The boys are great and there is a lot of banter in the changing room and it feels like home.

“Scott is a good guy, but so is Brian Saah when we were all playing together. Now we have gone into a 4-4-2 and I am with Scott.

“I think our partnership is getting better and better every week. I feel more at home playing with him.

“I feel better playing alongside him because he is a very experienced player and helps me through the game.”

Daggers will have to come to another agreement with Charlton when Obileye’s current loan ends if they want to extend it.

But it will be a boost to those at the club and the supporters to know the defender is happy to stay and everyone will be hoping he can remain and help in Daggers battle to stay in the Football League.
