Daggers midfielder returns to former club

Andre Boucaud insists Dagenham & Redbridge will relish visiting Adams Park this weekend where they face high-flying Wycombe Wanderers.

The Trinidad and Tobago international will be returning to one of his former clubs on Saturday, after facing another in the 3-1 defeat to Luton on Tuesday night.

And the 30-year-old believes he and his team-mates shouldn’t fear the Chairboys.

“Winning and losing isn’t good for confidence,” said Boucaud.

“We have got to try and get our heads down and get the results.

“There are teams that are up there this season that I don’t think are the greatest.

“I haven’t seen Wycombe play this year but it is not like we are going to the Emirates.

“We are going to Wycombe so we have to go there with the intention of getting three points.”

Boucaud spent the 2007/08 season at Adams Park under the management of Paul Lambert – now Aston Villa manager.

The midfielder only made 11 appearances, but enjoyed his time under the Premier League boss.

“Paul Lambert was there and he signed me,” added the Dagger.

“I went there on trial and obviously I did well and he took a liking to me and signed me.

“A manager of his calibre in the Premier League shows I was doing something right!

“I was involved on the bench a lot and it was a decent time and a decent experience.

“But Lambert left to go on to better things so I got left behind. It is one of those things, but it is a decent club.”

Daggers captain Abu Ogogo (suspension) and fellow midfielder Joss Labadie (hamstring) are unavailable on Saturday.

Boucaud believes Ogogo and Labadie will be missed but has backed the other players in the squad to seize the chance.

He said: “Both of them will be a big loss to the team.

“We are going to try and do well without them but that is why we have got squads.

“That is why we have a lot of players and for the other guys, that haven’t been playing now they can step in with an opportunity and take it.”

Although Wayne Burnett’s side have struggled at Victoria Road, their away form this season has been encouraging.

They beat Accrington Stanley last time out and have picked up eight points on the road this year.

And the Trinidad midfielder discussed why, adding: “We can keep the ball well and when you go away from home and keep the ball teams get frustrated.

“They push people forward and that opens up gaps for us.

“Hopefully we can go there and dictate the game, and get a result.”
