Dagenham & Redbridge boss Wayne Burnett is sure Rhys Murphy and Jamie Cureton will develop a good partnership together.

Murphy netted in the 1-0 win against Bury on January 3, but Cureton hasn’t scored since the two-goal success at Gigg Lane at the end of November.

The talented duo have started the last two matches together and showed snippets of a blossoming partnership.

But they didn’t link up as much as you would expect in the goalless draw with Oxford United on Saturday.

Burnett is still sure they will form a good partnership, he said: “I think Jamie and Rhys are both very intelligent players.

“I thought they might be a bit too similar because they both like playing on the shoulder, but Rhys will come into the pocket a little bit more.

“I think they are both clever enough to form that partnership and form that relationship.

“I think they are both very clever so I don’t see why they can’t form a good partnership.”

Daggers didn’t have one shot on target against Oxford last weekend, but did seem the team most likely to score at Victoria Road.

Ashley Chambers should have put them ahead after 18 minutes, but missed from close range. But not many other clear cut opportunities were created by either side.

And Burnett felt Michael Appleton’s team deserved some praise following the stalemate.

“Lets not take anything away from Oxford. They have come here and defended very well,” he added.

“They have got some very good players. The likes of Danny Hylton and Will Hoskins, who is getting back to fitness, and two or three others.

“You look at their squad and they have got some very good players so we’ll give them some credit as well because they have come here and given us a game.

“It wasn’t the flowing football that both Michael and I would like to seen played, but on the face of it a draw was probably a fair result.”
