League Two preview: Dagenham & Redbridge v Newport County
Dagenham & Redbridge have no new injury concerns going into today’s match with Newport County but manager Wayne Burnett expects Justin Edinburgh’s team to pose a different test compared to last season.
Daggers won 2-1 in Wales and drew 1-1 at Victoria Road in the 2013/14 campaign but Burnett believes County have changed slightly after they brought in five players during the summer in addition to making four loan signings since the start of the season.
He expects Edinburgh’s team to play with a slightly different formation compared to the last year.
“They have recruited some good players and they have changed slightly how they are going to play,” said Burnett.
“It is always tough against Justin’s teams because they are hard working, competitive and they move the ball around nicely.
“We are under no illusions about how tough the game will be. They have changed slightly in terms of the systems they play but we have to combat that.”
Rhys Murphy isn’t yet available for Daggers and both Zavon Hines and Luke Howell remain out for the foreseeable future, but Andre Boucaud returns following international duty to give Burnett plenty of options to choose from.
He admits that does provide him with a selection headache but he is pleased to have that problem.
Burnett said: “I am happy about that and I will be happy when everyone is available and everyone is ready.
“The reason you want everyone fit is because you want them fighting for places and you want competition. That is healthy and hopefully that can continue.”
