Dagenham & Redbridge manager Wayne Burnett has told his players they have nothing to lose when they face Stevenage this weekend following their best performance of the season on Tuesday night.

Abu Ogogo and Jamie Cureton found the net at Victoria Road against Plymouth Argyle to earn them a 2-0 win.

Daggers played play-off hopefuls Pilgrims off the park and they face another team aiming to finish in the top seven at Lamex Stadium this weekend.

And Burnett’s getting his players ready for the fixture.

“We have played a Plymouth team that are up there and we have played very well,” he said.

“Now we go to Stevenage and it will be a different game because their pitch is not very good so we will change how we play slightly because we have to.

“But we will go there probably as the underdog and not expected to gain anything and we have got nothing to lose. It is a siege mentality again.”

In the previous encounter, back on Boxing Day, Graham Westley’s Stevenage team left Victoria Road with a routine two-goal success.

It was a poor day at the office for Burnett and his side as they were booed off and they were firmly in a relegation battle.

But results have improved and Daggers have won seven of their 15 matches since that loss.

Burnett added: “Stevenage beat us at home and they were better than us and probably deserved their victory.

“It is a different game now and we will have to look at the pitch and see how it fares.”

The Lamex pitch will make Daggers’ passing football from Tuesday tough to replicate, but Burnett insists they will still try to play his way, despite the poor Stevenage surface.

He added: “We will certainly try to play as much football as we possibly can.

“We have players in the team that want to play football like Billy Bingham, Andre Boucaud, Ashley Hemmings and Ashley Chambers. They are all good footballers and we want to try and get the ball down and play.

“Against Plymouth our pass ratio was high, our pass completition was probably high so we want to try and pass the ball at Stevenage because that is my philosophy and how I want my football teams to play.”

Although thrilled with the success against Argyle, Burnett wasn’t getting carried away with targets for the rest of the campaign just yet.

“The goal has always been to get enough points to keep our football league status and that’s what we’re aiming for,” he said.
