Daggers have a chance to win three league matches in a row for first time since 2009/10 campaign when Portsmouth visit this evening

Wayne Burnett admits it would be fantastic if Dagenham & Redbridge could achieve a third consecutive league win this evening when Portsmouth visit, but he isn’t getting too carried away with their current form yet.

Northampton Town are the only team to defeat Daggers since the turn of the year and seven points have been achieved from a possible nine at Victoria Road in 2015 as well.

Pompey are the opponents tonight and will be boosted after winning themselves on Saturday – defeating Hartlepool United 1-0.

Burnett said: “It would be nice to get a big win against them. They have been in the Premier League, but they are where they are.

“I think we are level on points with Portsmouth and they are a club we know very well.

“They are probably in a position they didn’t think they would be in, but we are playing them and hopefully we give a good account of ourselves.

“Portsmouth are a good football team and Andy Awford has strengthened so we are under no illusions about how difficult the game will be.”

Burnett is hoping his team can continue their encouraging form at Victoria Road this evening.

Daggers also have a chance to secure three successive victories in the league for the first time since the 2009/10 season.

“It is a cliché, but we are taking one game at a time and I think Portsmouth have changed their shape slightly,” revealed Burnett.

“They had a good result at home against Hartlepool and Hartlepool have been galvanised of late.

“But we are at home so we have to take the game to them and wouldn’t it be fantastic if we could get three wins on the spin? It would be brilliant to achieve that and give our fans something to cheer about.”

Jamie Cureton has scored three goals in Daggers wins against Cheltenham Town and York City and Burnett praised the 39-year-old following Saturday’s success, adding: “He is a nightmare to play against because he plays on the shoulder of defenders and you don’t know where he is.

“He is not only a top player still, but also a top guy and great to have around.

“He has been a little bit disappointed with himself lately that he hasn’t scored more, but he has come up with two at York so he should be a little bit happier.”
