Daggers boss unhappy with Abu Ogogo’s red card during 1-0 home defeat

Dagenham & Redbridge boss Wayne Burnett bemoaned the decision by referee Tim Robinson to send off captain Abu Ogogo as the Victoria Road club lost 1-0 at home to Newport County.

Chris Zebroski headed a 90th minute winner for Justin Edinburgh’s side to consign Daggers to a seventh defeat of the league campaign.

Burnett’s side did create plenty of opportunities though, and substitute Jamie Cureton smashed an effort against the bar before the sending off.

But Ogogo was give his marching orders ten minutes from time for allegedly lashing out at County’s Lee Minshull and the Daggers manager disagreed with the red card.

“We did everything but score and they have scored and taken the three points,” said Burnett.

“The game has changed after the referee’s decision. It was not a sending off, the guy has got him round the neck and their assistant manager has come in and said to me it was not a sending off.

“Referees make those decisions and they live by them but it has cost us points because it has changed the complexion of the game.”

Burnett was also very disappointed with the goal Daggers conceded and the lack of marking.

He did praise the performance of substitute Jamie Cureton, who started on the bench due to a slight hamstring injury.

Burnett added: “We have given the ball away and they have put it in the box.

“They have a few in the box, we haven’t marked correctly and they have scored and it is very disappointing.

“Cureton has come on and looked lively and we have hit the bar but it was not meant to be.

“The goalkeeper has made two or three top class saves and the one from Cureton was fantastic, I don’t know how he has saved that.”
