Victoria Road club make trip to their London rivals needing to pick up points

Dagenham & Redbridge kept just their fourth clean sheet of the season last weekend as they were held to a goalless draw in the first round of the FA Cup by Southport, and manager Wayne Burnett is looking for them to build on that when they face AFC Wimbledon tomorrow.

The Victoria Road boss also wants them to stop giving away sloppy goals, especially when they are in winning positions.

And Daggers will make the trip to Cherry Red Records Stadium knowing another defeat could see them drop into the bottom two.

“It was nice to get a clean sheet, we were disappointed we couldn’t score but we need to get more clean sheets,” Burnett said.

“We have let in goals when we shouldn’t have at key moments and it has cost us games.

“I know I keep saying it but we have been in front in six times 1-0 with a potential 18 points and only managed to get one point from those 18.

“It should be a good game with a good atmosphere. We have always had decent, competitive matches with AFC so we expect another one.”

Although Matt Tubbs and Adebayo Akinfenwa are without doubt two of Dons biggest weapons, Burnett also talked up some of the other players Wimbledon manager Neal Ardley recruited in the summer.

Daggers boss discussed Sean Rigg, who was signed from Oxford United in the summer, and Dannie Bulman, who signed from Crawley Town.

He added: “They have brought in some decent players with the likes of Akinfenwa and Tubbs.

“We are expecting them to have goals in their team and Neal Ardley has done a very good job there.

“They have brought the boy Bulman in as well as the boy from Queens Park Rangers, Frankie Sutherland.

“George Francomb is on the right and Sean Rigg on the left so they have recruited quite a lot in the summer.

“They have brought in one or two and got rid of a few so they have got a very decent squad.”
