Burnett expecting another difficult game with non-league outfit

FA Cup first round replay preview: Southport v Dagenham & Redbridge

Dagenham & Redbridge boss Wayne Burnett wants his team to take the game to Conference Premier Southport tonight in their FA Cup first round replay and put the hosts under pressure from the off.

The Victoria Road side haven’t registered a win since defeating Accrington Stanley away from home on October 11.

And the Daggers manager acknowledged how tough the Sandgrounders will make it for them at Haig Avenue this evening.

“We have got to beat Southport first before we think about Eastleigh in the next round,” said Burnett.

“They gave us a good game at home and we are under no illusions about how difficult the game is going to be.

“We have got to go to Southport and really take the game to them.”

Burnett admits Daggers haven’t picked up enough points recently but is sure they will be able to raise themselves despite another loss at the weekend, this time to London rivals AFC Wimbledon.

“My job is to win football matches and of late we haven’t been doing that very often,” he added.

“Now we have to pick ourselves up and dust ourselves down and go again.”

New loan signing Ayo Obileye from Charlton Athletic will be unavailable for tonight’s game and Ade Yusuff is also cup-tied as well.

Andre Boucaud is still on international duty with Trinidad & Tobago and will contest the Caribbean Cup Final tonight against Jamaica.

But other than that the Daggers boss will have plenty of options to choose from and it is expected Jamie Cureton will be recalled this evening after he started on the bench against the Dons.

Burnett added: “Ade Yusuff is cup tied and the boy I brought on towards the end, who we took on loan from Charlton, he won’t be able to play because he wasn’t eligible in the first round.”
