Daggers boss felt fine margins decided their game against the Pilgrims

Dagenham & Redbridge boss Wayne Burnett admitted the timing of the Plymouth Argyle goals changed the complexion of the game at Home Park yesterday.

The Victoria Road club went down 3-0 versus the Devon outfit, with Reuben Reid scoring twice either side of Bobby Reid’s tap-in.

But before the 41st minute opener, Daggers were more than matching the highflying Pilgrims.

Once Reuben Reid tapped in the opener, it went downhill for the visitors and Bobby Reid doubled the hosts advantage five minutes after the break.

Ayo Obileye gave a penalty away late in the second period to allow Argyle to add some gloss to the scoreline, but Burnett disagreed with the spot kick.

“I actually don’t think it is a penalty, I am convinced it isn’t a penalty,” he said.

“It is fine margins as Jamie Cureton goes through (when it is 0-0) and hits a shot which goes a yard wide.

“Then Brian Saah nearly gets a nick on a ball so we have had chances. But goals do change games and that is a fact.”

Burnett introduced Alex Jakubiak and Rhys Murphy nine minutes into the second half, and both looked bright.

Patrick Agyemang was also brought on in the 70th minute and the Daggers boss felt Jakubiak was unlucky with an opportunity moments before Argyle won their penalty.

The forward attempted to swivel and shoot towards goal, but a Plymouth defender managed to block the effort and take the sting out of the shot.

Burnett said: “I tried to change it and brought Rhys Murphy on, who we felt could maybe change the game.

“We thought Alex could bring a bit of pace and in the end brought Patrick on to give us some physical presence.

“And just before they scored their third goal we had a chance. Alex Jakubiak turnt and I thought if it goes in it is 2-1. But before you know it, it is up the other end and 3-0.”
