Daggers visit Wycombe this afternoon

Dagenham & Redbridge boss Wayne Burnett admits his side must do better after two consecutive defeats over the past week.

The Victoria Road outfit had a point snatched from them at home last weekend when Chris Zebroski headed a 90th minute winner to give Newport County a 1-0 win.

And they were humbled by former manager John Still and Luton Town on Tuesday as Daggers went down 3-1 at Kenilworth Road.

Burnett was frustrated with his side after two more encouraging performances failed to bring any rewards.

“It doesn’t matter how well you play ultimately it is about winning football matches and we have got to win,” he said.

“We have been beaten far too many times at home and we have been beaten by Luton.

“I think you create your own luck and we need to be better because if we are not we will be in a relegation dogfight, which we probably are already.”

Mark Cullen fired a hat-trick on Tuesday night to put Still’s team three goals ahead.

Christian Doidge replied late on with his first for the club but it was just a consolation.

And although Burnett feels the team are making too many individual errors, he concedes he has to take the blame for the current set of results.

Daggers boss added: “We are making mistakes and individual errors and it is costing us.

“We can spend 50 hours a week on the training field but I can’t legislate for mistakes.

“I am picking the players so the buck stops with me.

“I am responsible and it is incredibly frustrating because I know what these players are capable of doing for us.”

Captain Abu Ogogo was sent off against Newport for allegedly lashing out at Lee Minshull but Burnett felt that decision wasn’t justified.

He also admitted after the weekend defeat that he is simply not winning enough games.

“Minshull has clearly got Abu round the neck,” added Burnett.

“Then they fall over but how the referee can send him off I don’t know.

“If I don’t win football matches I will get the sack and that is regardless of how well we play and how many chances we create.

“I am judged on winning football matches and I am not winning enough football matches at the moment.”

Daggers manager admits he is unsure how patient the board will be with him but he has vowed to keep trying his hardest to turn the situation around.

Burnett concluded: “I have got patience it is whether the board have, I can’t answer that.

“All I can do is keep doing what I am doing, keep trying my best and giving everything.”
