A handy guide to Sunday’s FA Cup opposition

Dagenham & Redbridge face Whitehawk for the first time ever this weekend when they meet in the second round of the FA Cup, but who exactly are Sunday’s opponents?

Whitehawk ply their trade in the National League South and were beaten play-off finalists last season in what was their second year in the division, losing out to Boreham Wood.

The Brighton club was founded in 1945, is managed by former Macclesfield Town boss Steve King and plays at the 2,000 capacity Enclosed Ground.

This season is the first time the non-league club have reached the second round of the FA Cup and the noisy Hawks Ultras, who are said to wave their keys at corners to signify a key moment, will make their voices heard at Victoria Road this weekend.

Whitehawk’s squad also boasts a huge amount of Football League experience with players such as Dean Leacock, Craig Braham-Barrett, Sam Deering, Arnaud Mendy, Scott Neilson, Danny Stevens, Dave Martin and Jake Robinson.

Their captain Lee Hills, formerly of Crystal Palace, will miss this weekend’s game through injury and Hawks will be skippered by midfielder Sergio Torres, who was part of the Crawley Town team that played at Old Trafford in the fifth round in 2011.

Daggers defence must also be wary of Whitehawk striker Danny Mills, who has 10 league goals to his name already this season.

With Hawks having eliminated Lincoln City, Dagenham will hope to avoid becoming another scalp for the ambitious non-league team
