Non-league team will give Daggers a tough test in FA Cup

Dagenham & Redbridge boss Wayne Burnett is certain their FA Cup game against Southport next weekend will be tough and used the display of their upcoming opponents Shrewsbury Town as an example of what an underdog can achieve.

Shrews visit Victoria Road on Saturday fresh off the back of their heroic display against Premier League Chelsea midweek.

The League Two outfit nearly took Jose Mourinho’s team to extra time in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup but conceded nine minutes from time to lose 2-1.

Although Daggers immediate attention is on Micky Mellon’s team this weekend, they host Conference Premier Southport next Saturday in the first round of the FA Cup.

Adult tickets in the terraces cost £10 for that tie and juniors can purchase tickets for just £1 should they book in advance.

Burnett is expecting a tough challenge from the non-league outfit, he said: “We have Southport now in the FA Cup and no game is easy.

“They will be very well organised. I know their manager Gary Brabin and he has taken over and lifted them and they have got a bit of momentum.

“Shrewsbury have played Chelsea the other night and Chelsea are top of the Premier League, Shrewsbury are near the top of League Two and Shrewsbury have given them a game.

“There is no easy games in football anymore.”
