Daggers boss hoping for positive result at Gigg Lane

Dagenham & Redbridge boss Wayne Burnett is looking to build some momentum and pick up a positive result against Bury this weekend, but is well aware of the tough challenge David Flitcroft’s team will provide.

Daggers make the trip to Gigg Lane off the back of a win, after ending a run of seven matches without victory by defeating Carlisle United 4-2 on Saturday.

And Burnett wants to get another result tomorrow (Saturday).

“We are going to Bury, who are probably one of the favourites in the league,” he said.

“David is an excellent manager and he has assembled an excellent group of players, but it would be nice to go there and get a result.

“We have never been low on confidence. We have sometimes been a little bit nervy and sometimes we have made the wrong decisions.

“We have played alright at times, but it has been individual errors that have cost us, so we have to try and stop those from happening and make the right decisions at the right time. If we do that, we’ll be ok.”

Bury had a formidable record at home going into November and at one point had won nine matches in a row at Gigg Lane.

But the Shakers form has taken a sudden dip and they have lost their last three matches in all competitions.

Last weekend’s 3-1 loss to Newport County was their second successive defeat on home soil and Daggers will be looking to pile more pressure on Flitcroft’s men.

“I know they got beat on Saturday,” added Burnett.

“I think they have one or two injuries, but we are under no illusions about how difficult the game will be because they’ve got good players and are a good team.

“We had a good result on Saturday against Carlisle so we will be going there full of confidence.”

Daggers played three central defenders at Victoria Road during the six-goal thriller and it was a successful formation change.

But Burnett would not reveal whether or not it will be used again this weekend.

He added: “We have an idea about how Bury will play and the system they are going to play.

“We will take each game as it comes and decide, depending on how we feel we can nullify their strengths and enhance ours.”
