Abu Ogogo discusses Burton Albion and Daggers good form

Dagenham & Redbridge captain Abu Ogogo is keen for his team to continue their encouraging form at Victoria Road this weekend, despite the visit of high-flying Burton Albion.

Wayne Burnett’s team struggled at home for the majority of 2014, winning just five matches on home soil in all competitions.

They suffered 13 defeats at Victoria Road last year as well to show how bad things had got.

But 2015 has brought a change of fortune and Daggers are yet to taste defeat there.

They have beaten Bury and Cheltenham Town and been held by Oxford United and Portsmouth and all of a sudden playing at Victoria Road is becoming a tough task for opposition teams.

Although Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s Brewers have been in great form, Ogogo is eyeing a victory against them tomorrow (Saturday).

“The year before we wasn’t the best at home,” he admitted.

“But in 2015 we have a good record so hopefully we can carry that on against Burton.

“I said from the start of the season if we can win our home games and pick up something away from home then we will be up there in the play-offs.

“It hasn’t worked like that, but 2015 we have started off well and we want to continue that.”

Ogogo will be expected to line up at right-back again, after starting in that position in the last three matches.

And although the captain would rather be in central midfield, he appears to have solved the right-back conundrum that has troubled Daggers this season.

“I have played right-back before,” added Ogogo. “It was a couple of years ago, but obviously I can do a job there, but my preference is to be playing in midfield.

“I can get about the pitch more and get forward when I play there, but in defence I need to be a bit more disciplined. I can’t get about as much and when I play right-back I feel it is more for the team.

“I am doing a job for the team, but I feel I play my best when I am in midfield.”

Ogogo will need to be at his best in defence if Daggers are to beat Burton this weekend.

He acknowledged that Hasselbaink’s team are in great form themselves – having not lost since November 29, but is confident of Daggers’ chances.

“Burton are flying and I think they are second, but we are on a very good run and have only lost one in nine,” he added.

“The boys will take a lot of confidence from that and the result against Morecambe.”
