Skipper praises team after edging five-goal thriller at the weekend

Abu Ogogo was pleased with the character Dagenham & Redbridge showed to pick up all three points at Globe Arena on Sunday.

Luke Howell, Ayo Obileye and Jamie Cureton netted against Morecambe to earn an excellent 3-2 victory and make it five games unbeaten for Wayne Burnett’s side.

However Andy Fleming had equalised for Shrimps midway through the first half and the Victoria Road captain felt his team showed good mental strength to comeback and get the win.

“We didn’t expect to get off to a start like that after Luke scored and sometimes you can score too early, but we were obviously pleased to score,” said Ogogo.

“The equaliser was a poor goal on our part and Mark Cousins has admitted maybe he should have done better. We should have reacted to the second ball, but we showed good character in the end to get the three points.

“The manager said we can play better after coming in 1-1 at half time and he said we need to take more shots because we were getting in the final third, but not shooting and taking our time so he said to get more shots off.”

Obileye and Cureton found the net during a four-minute period early on in the second period to make show Burnett’s words at the break had the desired effect.

Jack Redshaw did pull one back for the Shrimps deep into injury time after dribbling past Scott Doe before firing in from a tight angle, but it was a consolation strike.

And Ogogo was just happy with another victory, which takes Daggers up to 17th in the League Two table – seven points off the relegation positions.

“I don’t know how the Morecambe player scored from there to be fair, but credit to him,” he added when asked about Redshaw’s goal.

“It was a good goal, but there was only 20 seconds left after that so it was unlikely they were going to score a third goal.

“It was a very good win. Obviously the boys are on a bit of a roll at the moment so we were confident of coming to Morecambe and getting the three points and thankfully we did.

“We just need to worry about ourselves and not look at the table too much. We need to keep getting results and hopefully we continue to climb the table.”
