Daggers attacker pleased to contribute towards the victory
Ashley Chambers was delighted to help Dagenham & Redbridge defeat former club York City on Saturday and was particularly pleased that extra work on the training ground paid off.
The 24-year-old assisted both goals for Joss Labadie at Victoria Road and helped his team beat the Minstermen 2-0 in the process.
Chambers set up Labadie’s first after cutting the ball back for the midfielder, following a run down the left, and assisted his second as well.
For the second, the attacker curled in a free kick and Labadie was able to head home and that assist pleased the former York ace greatly.
Chambers said: “I was delighted to help the team out and chip in with a couple of assists and it was nice to get the three points at the end of the day.
“The free kick was the most pleasing one for me because we have spent a lot of time this week on that.
“I have been working on it with Darren Currie to adjust my technique so when Joss headed that one in at the end it really made me the most pleased.
“To help the team out with two assists made me really happy.”
Chambers had admitted beforehand that it would be a bit surreal to score against York, the team he played with for three years.
And the attacker conceded it was strange to just play against them but he was delighted Daggers were able to achieve a home win, their first since August 23.
“York just missed out on the play-offs last year and to win at home is obviously really important for us,” said Chambers.
“We need our home form to be good to get to where we want to be so we are all delighted.
“It was a little bit surreal (playing against them) because there is a lot of friends in there, who I have fought the cause for on another day.
“But like I said the other day, I was fighting for Dagenham and I am glad we got the three points.”
