Darren Currie has paid tribute to the work rate of everyone at the weekend and pinpointed Jamie Cureton and Rhys Murphy efforts in setting the tone.

He believes that has also been key to the club’s recent improvement in defence – forwards pressing from the front.

Daggers kept back-to-back clean sheets for the first time since August following a goalless draw with Southend United on December 28 and after Saturday’s 1-0 win over Bury, thanks to Murphy’s 51st minute volley.

And Currie praised the efforts of Cureton and Murphy following the Victoria Road win and the whole squad.

“Over the last couple of games we have defended better and kept two clean sheets now and that takes all 11 players to do that,” he said.

“Jamie is not in the team to necessarily be a workman type forward, but him leading from the front is setting the tone.

“Scott Doe and Ayo Obileye were making last ditch tackles, which is great to see.

“You score a lot of goals down one end and it is down to the forwards. You keep a clean sheet down the other end and it is down to the defenders.

“But it is a team game and we have defended brilliantly from the front against Bury and in midfield with Billy Bingham and Joss Labadie, when he was on.

“Joss put in a hell of a lot of ground and work in front of the back four at the weekend.

“And certainly in the last 15-20 minutes when you need some last ditch defending and a nice sound goalkeeper behind you we had all of that.”
