Defender was released by Daggers last week, but dreams of another spell in red and blue
Curtley Williams says he would love to return to Dagenham & Redbridge in the future after being released from the Essex club last week.
The right-back was among seven players set to be released when their deals expire in the summer, along with Paul Benson, Leo Donnellan, Frankie Raymond, Luke Guttridge, Shomari Barnwell and Jakub Berkowicz.
In a message on Twitter last week, Williams said he ‘felt his days at Dagenham’ were not done, and in an exclusive interview with this paper, the 27-year-old says he’d love to don the red and blue shirt again in the future.
“If the chance comes up to play for Dagenham again in the future, I’d jump at it,” he said.
“I don’t know what it is about the club, but it is a really special place, from the fans, to the players, to the staff and the boardroom.
“You hear the term ‘family club’ banded about in football quite a lot these days, but Dagenham really is a family club.
“If the chance comes up, I’d love to play for the club again in the future.”
Despite making just 11 appearances in an injury-hit campaign after joining from Luton Town last summer, Williams enjoyed a tremendous relationship with the Daggers faithful.
After posting a heartfelt thank you to the fans on social media last week, Williams received many messages from Daggers fans saying they were devastated to see him leave and wished him all the best for the future.
And Williams was again only too happy to praise the fans for their support, especially after spending six months on the sidelines with a knee injury from the end of August until the end of March.
“The fans were superb throughout my time at the club and even after a long spell out, they still gave me a great reception,” he added.
“I can’t thank the fans enough and every time I stepped out on the pitch, I wanted to give my all for them.
“I’d try to get the boys around me to give it everything for the fans too because they were loyal to us and that’s the kind of person I am.”
