After pushing Daggers hard in first half, Blues conceding four times after break

Dagenham & Redbridge were the beneficiaries of a taxing week taking its toll on Chester, according to Blues boss Marcus Bignot.

The Essex club cruised to a 4-0 National League win in Cheshire on Saturday, with Michael Cheek nabbing a brace, while Sam Ling and Luke Howell were also on target.

Leading into the match, Chester had two long trips in the space of just three days and did not get home from their visit to Leyton Orient on Tuesday until 9am on Wednesday morning after being caught up in traffic on their way home.

And Bignot believes that played a part, suggesting the second half, when Daggers scored all four goals, was just a step too far for his team after the week they had.

But he did admit that he thought the tide was turning in the Blues favour when Corey Whitely fired a spot kick wide for Daggers shortly before they took the lead through Ling.

“I thought we had our moment of luck when they missed the penalty,” Bignot told the Chester Chronicle.

“Then we shot ourselves in the foot and from then on in you could see physically and mentally the confidence drained out of them.

“For 45 minutes, it was physically and mentally too far for us after a demanding week.”
