Dagenham & Redbridge manager John Still is confident he can keep hold of his star players and fend off interest from Football League clubs this January.

With the window now open for clubs in the top four divisions of English football, the rumour mill is expected to go into overdrive in the coming weeks.

Being among the front runners in the National League, there are bound to be a few Daggers players who have admirers higher up the pyramid.

But Still is keen to keep hold of his key players, though admits there are things for the Essex club to consider.

“There are one or two things which have come up that we’re looking at,” said the 67-year-old.

“At the moment, I’m going to say no one is going, but I can’t say that won’t be the case come the end of the season.

“We’ve had some outstanding performers this season and when you have that, there is always going to be interest in them.

“Some people have started the season and got better and better, like Sam Ling who has been unbelievable.

“Corey Whitely started the season on fire, he’s gone backwards a little, but he looks like he’s coming back to form.

“Morgan Ferrier has always been a threat and we’re aware of people’s interest in our players, but at the moment we’re OK.”

Having been knocked out of the FA Trophy last month, Daggers do not play again in the National League until January 20 when they visit Sutton United.

The gap will give Still a chance to get some of his injured players back to fitness, while also giving a rest to his first team regulars.

And the Daggers boss is looking forward to using the break in the fixture list to the Essex club’s advantage.

“We’ll try and get a friendly arranged, which will help get one or two players back who have been out.

“Dan Sparkes is getting fit now, which is good; Fejiri Okenabirhie is getting fit now, which is good.

“Both were good against Hartlepool and ‘Fey’ was excellent.

“Michael Cheek, it was the best he’s been against Hartlepool and he’s been out for a long while and taken time to recover.

“We’ve given some people a rest recently because we felt they needed a rest. It’s going to be a long drag and we need people fresh.”
