Daggers veteran players final 24 minutes as Soca Warriors lose to Mexico in World Cup qualifier

Dagenham & Redbridge midfielder Andre Boucaud was unable prevent Trinidad & Tobago from losing 1-0 at home to Mexico in their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Tuesday night.

The 32-year-old came on in the 66th minute of the match at the Hasley Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, with the Soca Warriors trailing to a Diego Reyes goal for El Tri in the 58th minute.

Despite his best efforts, Boucaud could not instigate a comeback for the hosts, who are managed by former Swansea City defender Dennis Lawrence.

Coming on for the final 24 minutes against Mexico may have made the trip worthwhile for the Daggers midfielder, though, who was an unused substitute on Friday.

Boucaud watched from the bench as Trinidad & Tobago recorded a 1-0 home win against Panama, courtesy of a Kevin Molino goal.

After the latest round of qualifiers, the Soca Warriors are bottom of the table, but are just two points adrift of Panama, who occupy the final automatic qualification spot.

On-loan defender Shaun Donnellan was also on international duty, helping the Republic of Ireland under-21s beat Kosovo in a 2019 UEFA Under-21 Championship qualifier on Saturday.

Donnellan, who is on loan at Daggers from Premier League side West Bromwich Albion, played the full 90 minutes as Ireland won thanks to an Olamide Shodipo goal.
