Dagenham & Redbridge winger Nick Wheeler has left the National League promotion hopefuls after his contract was cancelled by mutual consent.

Wheeler was signed in the summer by Daggers boss John Still, joining on a one-year deal after impressing during pre-season.

However, the 26-year-old made just one appearance for the first time, coming off the bench in the 63rd minute in the 3-1 win at home to Gateshead on September 2.

Wheeler also failed to appear in either the Essex Senior Cup win at Witham Town last Tuesday, or in the friendlies against Crystal Palace under-23s and Queens Park Rangers under-23s in the past week.

That suggested the writing was on the wall for the winger, with the news now confirmed that he has left the Victoria Road club permanently.

A club statement confirming the former Tonbridge Angel man’s departure read: “The club would like to wish Wheeler all the best for the future.”
