One more win need for Daggers to guarantee a top five finish

Dagenham & Redbridge boss John Still knows his team’s fate in the play-offs remains in their own hands with two games left in the National League season.

The Essex club head to Wrexham on Saturday knowing they can wrap up a top five finish by claiming all three points at the Racecourse Ground.

Had results gone their way on Monday afternoon, they could have headed across the border with their play-off place already secured, but Still is happy Daggers still control their own destiny.

“We’re bang in it and we’re a point better off than Dover Athletic (who lost 1-0 at Aldershot Town) when we started Monday morning,” said the Daggers boss.

“We’ve been in a great run of form, playing some great football and this isn’t a criticism of anybody, but our pitch is making it so difficult for us.”

While Still will be looking to improve on Monday’s 2-2 draw at home to Sutton United, Still will also hope to see the performance from the officials improve too.

Referee Adam Bromley did not have the best of games officiating Daggers’ derby with Sutton, bottling some big calls in the second half.

Still is not one to openly criticise the officials, but even the Daggers boss feels Bromley made a few poor calls on Monday.

The ref could have handled it (Sutton’s time-wasting) differently. I’m not saying go crazy, but he could have called the captain over and warned him,” he added.

“There was also a foul where around the halfway line, their full-back brought down Elliott Romain when there was no one behind him and didn’t book him, which I found strange. Refereeing is a difficult job, though.”
