Dagenham & Redbridge face competition from Barrow for a spot in the National League play-offs, according to Bluebirds boss Paul Cox.

After going down 2-1 at Holker Street on Saturday, Daggers, who are fourth, are now just six points clear of the Cumbria side in eighth with nine games left.

It means the Essex club who for so long looked like title challengers, now face a battle to make the play-offs and Cox wants to pile the pressure on in the coming weeks.

“A lot of people had tipped Dagenham for automatic promotion, but we have now got nine cup finals to come,” he told The Non-League Paper.

“If we show that kind of mentality, it will go down to the wire and I will love that.”

Daggers had taken the lead in Cumbria when a Corey Whitely corner found the net in the 11th minute.

Barrow, though, drew level with a Liam Hughes penalty in the 39th minute before Moussa Diarra scored the winner 12 minutes into the second half.

Cox, however, feels the Essex club were a touch fortunate to go in level at half time, but was pleased his Bluebirds maintained their performance in the second period to win.

“We played some good stuff and should have come in a half-time 3-1 to the good,” he added.

“We kept up the tempo and got a fully deserved result.”
