Daggers youngster moves to Sky Blues until end of the season, with option to make move permanent

Dagenham & Redbridge teenager Jodi Jones has moved to League One side Coventry City on loan until the end of the season, with an option to make the switch permanent in the summer.

Jones made his Daggers debut in February 2015, coming on as an 89th-minute substitute in a goalless draw at home to Portsmouth, and has gone on to make a further 39 appearances in all competitions for the club.

The 18-year-old scored his first goal in a 4-0 demolition of Accrington Stanley in April last year and also went on to register strikes against Exeter City, Barnet and Notts County.

Jones was subject to interest from Premier League clubs in the summer and Championship sides in January, with rumours that a six-figure sum had been accepted, but remained at Victoria Road.

The winger, though, has been unable to hold down a first team spot under new manager John Still and now looks set to depart Victoria Road for good to link up with the Sky Blues, who are among the League One play-off contenders.

“I’m delighted for Jodi, it’s a great opportunity. There were a few clubs interested in taking him but for whatever reason nothing has happened,” said Still.

“I feel for his progress it is the right time for this to happen. It’s a great opportunity for Jodi to proceed onto a higher level”.
