Mark Cousins was in top form for Daggers to ensure they ended the year with a solid point at a promotion contender.

He made four excellent stops at the start of the second period to prevent Phil Brown’s Southend picking up a win.

Wayne Burnett’s side do drop into the relegation zone with this result, but showed great resilience at Roots Hall to come away with a point.

Mark Cousins (8) – The Daggers number one was brilliant against the Blues and ensured Daggers drew by making a string of second half stops. Man of the match performance from 27-year-old.

Matt Partridge (7) – Youngster made his first start in over a month, but slotted in at right-back superbly and put in a great display.

Scott Doe (7) – He was captain for the day and responded with another typical whole hearted display, battled well with Barry Corr all afternoon.

Ayo Obileye (8) – Charlton Athletic loanee looked solid again, won numerous headers and even played some successful cross field passes. Back to his usual self.

Jack Connors (7) – He made one poor header back to Cousins, but other than that was very impressive and showed great concentration and awareness throughout.

Ashley Chambers (6) – A relatively quiet day for Chambers, didn’t get on the ball too much and was subbed just after the hour mark.

Billy Bingham (7) – Another good performance from midfielder, who played some defence splitting passes and battled gamely in the middle of the park.

Andre Boucaud (6) – Solid performance from Trinidad and Tobago international, but he was again a little too slow on occasions to release the ball.

Joss Labadie (6) – He put the ball in the net midway through second half, but it was ruled out for offside. Quiet game, but like other midfield trio worked hard.

Ashley Hemmings (7) – A constant threat in the first period, got at John White on various occasions and unlucky to be called offside for the disallowed goal. He also had great run shortly after break, but Cureton couldn’t finish chance.

Jamie Cureton (6) – Tough afternoon for experienced forward. He didn’t get much of the ball and when he did, he failed to make most of it. But he worked the channels well and closed down the Southend defenders.

Substitutes:

Luke Howell, for Chambers 62. (6) – Energetic display, as expected, from the midfielder after his introduction just past hour mark.

Ade Yusuff, for Boucaud 77. (6) – Short cameo for forward, but showed good energy in short while he was on the pitch.

Brian Saah, for Partridge 85.
