Midfielder joined Daggers last week on deal until end of season

New Dagenham & Redbridge midfielder Liam Bellamy revealed he has been impressed by the training sessions put on by boss Peter Taylor.

Bellamy, along with Jack Munns, was one of two new signings announced last week, with both agreeing deals until the end of the season

The former Dover Athletic man had been trialling with the Essex club before signing and had been training with Taylor’s men for just over a week.

And after his signing was announced, Bellamy said he had liked what he had seen on the training pitch from Taylor.

“Training with Peter has been really enjoyable and I’ve really enjoyed the sessions that both him and (assistant manager) Terry Harris put on,” the new man told the club website.

“You want the sessions to be intense and because there are a lot of young players and players who want to progress in their careers, everyone is hungry and wants to do well.”

Despite being just 26, Bellamy is in an unusual position of being considered one of the ‘older heads’ of the Daggers squad.

The midfielder, though, appears to relish that responsibility and hopes to help some of his younger colleagues with their development during his time at Victoria Road.

“It’s interesting because now I’m one of the senior boys, I have to use my experience to help the younger players reach where we want to get to,” he added.

Recent seasons have seen Bellamy, who has also played for Aldershot Town and Ebbsfleet United, endure a frustrating time with injuries.

The former Charlton Athletic trainee had been without a club since leaving Dover in the summer, but he is itching to get back on the pitch with his new club.

“I just want to get back playing. Sometimes when you’ve been out for a little while, you’re raring to go again,” he added,

“I’ve been watching the boys playing the games and I’m really happy with how it’s going and how I’ve been training with them.”

Bellamy joins with Daggers in the relegation zone, but the midfielder is confident there are good times ahead.

“The position in the league is not great at the moment, but I remember being at Dover when we had a slow start to the season and then we went on a good run of form,” he said.
