Second-half Chike Kandi goal helped Daggers to draw against Spireites

Dagenham & Redbridge boss Peter Taylor believes his side were good value for their point in their 1-1 draw at home to Chesterfield in the Vanarama National League.

The Essex club fell behind in the 13th minute when Curtis Weston prodded home from close range after Lee Shaw played the ball across the box.

With 11 minutes remaining, though, Chike Kandi chipped over the onrushing Shwan Jalal from 20 yards after capitalising on a missed header by Will Evans.

The point lifted Daggers out of the bottom four, and Taylor believes their performance warranted the result.

“I think it’s a good draw and a very good point. Chesterfield, I know they’re not on a good run, but they’re a good team,” he said.

“(Tom) Denton caused us a few problems because he wins absolutely everything in the air. I was just disappointed with the way we started.

“We started like we started against Salford City a couple of weeks ago, with not enough belief to take the game to the opposition.

“The longer the game went on, we got better and I thought we made a very good start to the second half.

“We then started asking a few more questions of Chesterfield. We had to deal with their strengths and dangerous players, but I felt we grew into the game.”

In truth, the draw was probably a fair result between two evenly-matched sides at Victoria Road.

And Taylor was pleased his time recovered from going a goal behind to extend their unbeaten run.

“The way the game started, it looked like Chesterfield were going to be better than us; by the time it had finished, I think it had evened itself out. I’m pleased with the point and we’re four games unbeaten now. Eight points from four games is a good total and we move on to the next game.”
