Dagenham & Redbridge defender Scott Doe was left bitterly disappointed to end their home campaign on such a downer.

The Daggers were 3-0 behind in 22 minutes against Northampton on Saturday, thanks to Ivan Toney’s double and one for Ian Morris, which effectively ended the contest before the first half was even over.

And Doe, who was back from a three-game ban for his sending-off at Wycombe Wanderers, was frustrated at their slow start.

“It’s a massive disappointing end to the home season,” said Doe.

“Conceding three goals in the first half was really disappointing. Losing the way we did is a massive downer anyway, but for it to be the last home game is even more frustrating.

“We knew exactly what they would do, but the first goal was most disappointing for me. It was down to a lack of communication and bad defending.

“That cost us and that gets their tails up. If we keep it 0-0 for the first 20 minutes then we go on and who knows we probably win the game, but that’s no excuse because we knew exactly what they were going to do.”

Doe picked up the sponsors man-of-the-match award on a day where opportunitites were given by boss Wayne Burnett for others to impress, with five changes from the team which lost 1-0 on Easter Monday to Chesterfield.

Most failed to take the chance, but the experienced centre half was pleased to be back in the fold after his sending off against Wycombe Wanderers.

“I was happy to play again although the result is not good,” he remarked.

“I got man of the match and my own performance wasn’t too bad, which is one positive thing to take out of it, but all the lads are gutted.”
