Daggers goalkeeper Cousins not phased by away form or the spotlight of TV cameras

Dagenham & Redbridge travel up north to face National League strugglers Chester in front of the BT Sport cameras this weekend.

John Still’s men visit the Deva Stadium on Saturday for a 12.30pm kick-off and goalkeeper Mark Cousins says they want to make it three wins in a row to keep climbing up the table.

Daggers have struggled on the road this season and have failed to win since their first away game of the campaign, when they beat Boreham Wood 2-1 on August 8.

“You always want to get wins away from home and we know that our away form isn’t great, but I don’t think it really concerns us at all,” said Cousins.

“We don’t go into away games thinking ‘Oh God, we haven’t won away since whenever’. We just see it as another game and that’s exactly what we’ll be doing on Saturday.”

The former Colchester United shot-stopper revealed television matches are just another game once players get out on to the pitch and they need to forget about the spotlight and pick up another three points.

“Kick-off time, that’s the only difference it makes, as once the game gets going you don’t realise there is cameras and everything else like that,” he added.

“Maybe before you see the odd camera floating about in the changing room, but once the game kicks off, it’s all about playing in the right way and getting three points.”

Cousins, who made his 100th appearance for the club in Tuesday’s 1-0 victory against Dover Athletic, admits he doesn’t know much about Chester but expects another tough test.

“I haven’t really seen too much of Chester this season, I know we went there last season and actually lost 3-0,” he said.

“Every game is tough, it doesn’t matter whether you play teams near the bottom or teams near the top, and it’s going to be tough.”

Daggers beat Guiseley 3-2 on Saturday before sealing a 1-0 victory against leaders Dover to end their 10-game unbeaten run and Cousins wants them to build on their recent form and make it three consecutive wins.

“We want to make it three on the bounce and I’m sure they will be looking to get a win under their belts,” he added.

“It will be just as tough as (Dover) and we’ll have to match our work rate to stay in games and get the vital goal.”

The club will also learn their FA Trophy fate on Monday.
