New Dagenham & Redbridge Alexander McQueen got himself off to a dream start at Victoria Road as he netted on his debut.

The 23-year-old came off the bench fashionably late in the 56th minute and slotted his first for the club home in the 80th minute to help the Daggers earn their first point of the National League season in a 2-2 draw against Maidenhead United.

Although, the former Tottenham Hotspurs youngster did admit three points would have been a better start than a goal for himself.

“I’m really happy to have scored, but I would have preferred to have won, as the three points mean more,” McQueen said.

“It’s a good start, but we have another game on Tuesday so hopefully we can get the three points there and start building together.”

The Rush Green-born midfielder revealed it feels good to be at his local club and that he has been training with Peter Taylor’s for quite a while.

“I have been training here everyday for the past three weeks or so, so I do know the boys quite well, but I mean it was just good to finally sign and start to play.

“I was actually a mascot here when I was about nine or something and I’ve played for Tottenham against these a few times as well.

“A lot of my family and friends come as well which was nice.”

The versatile player, who can operate at full-back, central midfield and on wing is now keen to break into the first-team in the coming weeks.

“That’s what I’m trying to do, not sure if it will be Tuesday or Saturday or when, but hopefully sometime soon and hold onto it as there are a lot of good players fighting for those positions.

“The plan is to do well here and see where we can go.”

McQueen joined the club from Finnish side VPS where he spent last season after being released by Carlise United in 2017.

“The season is different over there so I thought I hadn’t played for three or four months after leaving Carlisle and the season hadn’t started over there.

“I had the opportunity so I thought why not and it was a good experience, the football is good, and I think I played like 12 games there.

“It’s always better to come back to England but my club over there was really good.”
