It hasn’t been too long, but Daggers midfielder Luke Howell is looking forward to being re-united with former goalkeeper Chris Lewington when he returns with new side Colchester United today.

Lewington left the Daggers after six years at Victoria Road, having made his intentions clear of wanting a fresh challenge.

And he’s linked up with the U’s on a three-year deal, while Mark Cousins made the reverse journey to Victoria Road.

That adds a little bit to the game for both goalkeepers, but Howell was pleased for Lewington to progress up the Football League with Joey Dunne’s side.

“It will be good to see Chris, I am glad he got a deal there because he’s a great lad and a good goalkeeper,” said Howell.

“It worked out well for him so it will be good to see him. It is a bit weird with Mark swapping places effectively but that’s football isn’t it.

“People come, people go. It’s just one of those coincidences but I am sure he’s looking forward to it and I am sure Mark’s looking forward to it as well because he was there a long time.”

Former Walsall winger Ashley Hemmings will feature once again for the Daggers, while it’s Jamie Cureton’s first game for the club since signing a one-year deal on Thursday.
