Dagenham & Redbridge have announced the signing of defender Emmanuel Onariase who joins the club on loan from Championship side Rotherham United until January.

The 22-year-old Onariase started his career with West Ham Academy and spent seven years at the east London outfit.

The centre-back went onto to make his Under 23’s debut at just 16 and was featured on the bench for the Hammers’ League fixture against Arsenal in March 2015.

Terry Westley, Hammers Academy Manager talks very highly of the centre back after his time with the youth side.

The six foot three inch defender moved onto to Brentford B in the summer of 2016, where Emmanuel made 15 appearances for the outfit, as well as being named as a substitute in the Sky Bet Championship on three separate occasions.

A loan spell to League Two side Cheltenham Town was next for Emmanuel, at the Robins he made 24 appearances, scoring once and keeping 8 clean sheets.

His impressive spell with Cheltenham earned him a new two-year contract with Brentford.

After signing the deal, Rotherham United’s initial loan deal led to a permanent move in late August 2017.

Onariase has been at Rotherham, until the end of last season which saw him feature on a five-game loan spell for Cheltenham, before returning to his parent club in the summer.

Peter Taylor said: “Emmanuel started at West Ham and went to Brentford, he has his Mum and Dad who live locally which is good.

“He is absolutely a good signing for us, he is a centre half that understands the role of being a number five and he has all the tools to be a very good centre half, so I am very pleased.”
