Dagenham & Redbridge will be looking to bounce back from three consecutive defeats when they make the long trip up north to face Gateshead this weekend.

The Daggers will go to the Gateshead International Stadium on Saturday as they bid to cause an upset and climb their way out of the relegation zone in the National League.

Manager Peter Taylor is hoping to be able to introduce some more experienced players into the line-up for the clash with a few of his squad getting closer to being match fit.

Recent signing Liam Bellamy came off the bench in the 59th minute of their 3-1 defeat to Ebbsfleet United and could get a start, with Jack Munns and Ben Nunn both also getting close to being handed chances after working hard in recent weeks to regain fitness.

“I just think we need to try and get a few more experienced players on the pitch, that’s what we’ve got to do,” said the 65-year-old Taylor.

“That’s the next target for me is to get more experienced players match fit.

“We’re working extremely hard to get that done, but as you can appreciate we had a couple of friendlies where a player got injured early and then we arranged another one where it got called off after 19 minutes so it didn’t help our plans.”

The former England caretaker manager did reveal youngster Elliot Bonds is still some way off returning but is hoping club captain Nunn could possibly make a return after a long lay-off through injury.

The 28-year-old right-back was due to get some minutes under his belt this week with the club arranging a friendly at Billericay last night (Tuesday).

“Not so much Elliot Bonds but Ben Nunn has got a good chance, he’s hopefully going to play 90 minutes on Tuesday that will do him the world of good and give him a chance for Gateshead,” added Taylor at the weekend.

The boss is expecting another tough test in the National League but says his side must just focus of their own game as well as preparing for their opponents. “They’re all tough, I can ensure you of that. If there is an easy place, let me know will you?” he joked.

“All we can do is plan ourselves, work as hard as we can, prepare as well as we possibly can, then go and play on the day. There are too many times where maybe in the week, we look a good team, but it doesn’t matter in the week, it’s all about match day.”
