Dagenham & Redbridge manager Peter Taylor frustrated with early Gateshead goals in their 2-0 defeat after a positive opening ten minutes from his side.
Daggers slumped to a to a fourth successive defeat in the National League after conceding two goals in the space of three first-half minutes at the Gateshead International Stadium on Saturday.
“The start was excellent, we should have been a goal up very early on, great work by Elliot Romain as he played Chike Kandi in and he should have got a shot in earlier,” the 65-year-old said.
“The first ten minutes we were good and then the first time Gateshead attacked us they scored a goal and that killed us a little bit then they went and got another goal.
“Straight away we were chasing the game so for 80 minutes I’m not very pleased with the way that we’ve performed.
“We’ve got to be a bit stronger and a bit together than we were for 80 minutes.”
The former Gillingham boss admitted he was pleased with the start but says his side should have always known it would be a tough place to get a result.
“You’re always trying to start well, wherever you go, and you know it’s not going to be an easy place to play.
“I know they’d lost their last three matches here but they’d be doing well away from home so you knew there was not a lot wrong with their team.
“You know it’s going to be a tough game so to start well is good but we keep making the same mistakes, we keep giving cheap or poor goals away, and it is quite frustrating.
Peter Taylor made two changes to his starting line-up from the 3-1 home loss to Ebbsfleet as captain Ben Nunn came in for his first start of the season and Chike Kandi was also preferred in attack.
The pair replaced Liam Gordon and the suspended Ben Goodliffe reverting back to back four and going with three in attack for the clash.
“I wanted to play a front three, I wanted to play three forwards, that’s what I did.
“I played Romain, Kandi and Mullings, I felt as though they could cause some trouble and early doors I felt they did do that but straight away we’re a goal down after 10 minutes so that affects the performance.”
