Dagenham & Redbridge players are urging the fans to stick with them after failing to win in their opening five National League fixtures this season.

Daggers suffered a 2-1 defeat to Halifax Town on Saturday after a promising first-half from the young side as they still search for their first win of the campaign.

The Shaymen’s Matty Kosylo opened the scoring in the 28th minute and five minutes later Peter Taylor’s side were level thanks to striker Tomi Adeloye as he volleyed an effort into the back of the net.

But in the 59th minute Jonathan Edwards crushed Daggers hopes of picking up their second point of the season as he netted the eventual winner to seal the three points for the hosts at the Shay.

Vice-captain Matt Robinson is grateful to the 51 travelling fans on the weekend and revealed his side are desperately working hard to get a win on the board after a miserable start to the new term.

He tweeted after the match: “Not a lot I can say about today.

“The lads are trying so hard to bring the fans and ourselves a win.

“Thanks to the travelling support again.”

Wolves loanee defender Ben Goodliffe also feels the result didn’t reflect the game and thanked the fans for their support on the long trip up north.

“Not the result we wanted and needed,” Goodliffe tweeted.

“Score line didn’t reflect the performance.

“Great effort from the Dagenham fans who travelled, keep your support going.”

Fellow defender Will Wright, who is on loan from League Two side Colchester United, also wanted to thank the fans and feels the turning point, is coming soon.

Wright tweeted: “The frustrations continue, thanks to the fans for backing us for the full 90 minutes.

“The tide will turn along with the luck and the points will start falling our way.

“Big week and we go again Saturday and Monday to start picking up results.”

*The young squad were due to face AFC Hornchurch in a friendly at Bridge Avenue last night to allow boss Peter Taylor to experiment with his ever growing side ahead of a busy Bank Holiday weekend against Hartlepool United and Barnet.
