More positive news on Zavon Hines

Wayne Burnett is looking for his side to begin 2015 positively and start picking up points to move them away from the League Two relegation places.

Bury are the visitors to Victoria Road tomorrow (Saturday) and Daggers will be hoping to achieve a league double over the Shakers.

The last time they actually won a match was against David Flitcroft’s team at the end of November, and Burnett hopes his players take confidence from that 2-0 success.

But his main focus is ensuring they start picking up points.

“Bury are a good team, with some really good players so we are expecting a tough match,” said Burnett.

“We played them at the end of November and they gave us a really hard game.

“The players should take confidence from the previous result, but every game is different – we know that.

“We are at the wrong end of the table, though, so we need to start picking up results.”

Daggers only achieved five wins at Victoria Road during 2014 and Burnett would love for them to start the new year with three points at home.

However, he doesn’t want to focus too much on that, and rather the need for them to move out of the relegation places.

He added: “Let’s hope we can have a change of fortune at home. But I am not going to go on about it too much.

“I will let everyone else do that, but of course it would be nice to start off with a win.

“We would like to build on the clean sheet we got against Southend on Sunday because the foundation of a team is to build from the back.

“But we are most focused on getting some vital points.”

Burnett was waiting on confirmation from Bury as to whether Joe Widdowson was allowed to play against his parent club, as he is on loan from the Gigg Lane outfit.

But the Daggers boss revealed more encouraging news about Zavon Hines.

“We had an in-house game on Tuesday and Zav played,” said Burnett.

“We are hopeful he will be back soon. Bury will probably come too early for him, but sooner rather than later he will be available.”
