Dagenham & Redbridge manager Wayne Burnett hopes Bradley Goldberg will blossom after the striker signed a new one-year deal with the club.

Goldberg spent last season on loan at Conference South side Bromley and ended the campaign top goalscorer with 23 goals.

And having extended his contract at Victoria Road, Burnett hopes he can make the step up.

“I was pleased to get Bradley tied up as he did very well and scored a lot of goals while on loan at Bromley,” said Burnett.

“He’s now got the opportunity to show if he is capable of performing at this level.”

Speculation was rife that other clubs were set to come in for the former Charlton Athletic trainee after such an impressive campaign for the Lilywhites.

And though he has only signed a one-year extension with the Daggers, the Victoria Road chief feels that will bring the best out of Goldberg.

“I feel he can blossom with the one-year deal,” he added. “A shorter deal will keep him hungry and I don’t think it’s always good to tie players down for too long as they can get too comfortable.”

Burnett also completed the capture of former Brentford goalkeeper Liam O’Brien on a two-year deal.

The 22-year-old didn’t feature for the Bees in his time at the club, but had spent spells with Portsmouth and Barnet.

And though he hasn’t played too many games, the Daggers boss hopes he can thrive under the tutelage of goalkeeping coach Jim Stannard.

“Liam has really good attributes and he has excellent technique,” remarked Burnett.

“He’s only 22 but in Jim Stannard we have a fine goalkeeping coach who has coached some of the very best and I am confident Jim working with Liam will bring him on.”

That leaves Daggers with one goalkeeper spot to fill, and Burnett expects that to be a more experienced head.

“I feel Liam lost his way a little, but we are looking to bring another number one in if that makes sense and Liam has a fantastic opportunity to have a real good go for the number one spot,” he said.

“Chris Lewington was 26 and Jordan 19 but with Liam at 22 and another older goalkeeper coming in it will hopefully work well.

“We have targets but we have to make sure they are the right one for this club.”
