Burnett believes Ayo Obileye will provide good competition for places at the club

Dagenham & Redbridge boss Wayne Burnett hopes Charlton Athletic youngster Ayo Obileye can have a positive impact during his time at Victoria Road.

The 20-year-old has joined the club on a one-month youth loan and made his debut in the final few minutes of the game at the Cherry Red Records Stadium on Saturday during the 1-0 defeat to AFC Wimbledon.

Burnett believes the former Sheffield Wednesday player will be looking to achieve success with Daggers.

He said: “I have watched him a few times and seen him play so I know him.

“He is competitive and a young, hungry player that we have seen so hopefully he can certainly have an impact.”

Obileye made his first team debut with the Sheffield club aged just 16 in a Johnstone’s Paint Trophy match against Bradford in 2011.

But for some reason the youngster hasn’t gone on to achieve the heights he was predicted to reach.

Burnett hopes the loan deal can prove worthwhile for both Daggers and Obileye.

He added: “Ayo made his debut and played in Sheffield Wednesday’s team at 16.

“There were high expectations of him and for whatever reason it hasn’t worked out.

“He has gone to Charlton and we’ll hopefully benefit from having him here.”
