Justin Edinburgh’s Newport County come to Victoria Road this weekend

Dagenham & Redbridge boss Wayne Burnett is looking forward to facing an old friend this weekend, but is hoping he can get one over him.

Justin Edinburgh’s Newport County visit Victoria Road on Saturday and Burnett has known the former Tottenham Hotspur defender for a long time.

Daggers drew 1-1 at home and beat Edinburgh’s team 2-1 on the road last season and Burnett is relishing the prospect of facing his friend again.

He expects a tough game against the Welsh club, but is confident his own side will deliver a performance at home.

“I do know Justin very well and I have known him for a very long time,” said Burnett.

“He has done a fantastic job at Newport and we had two tough games against them last year.

“We will have a very difficult game on Saturday and it is always a tough game against Justin’s teams.

“We need to make sure we are ready and we really go for it and put in a decent performance.”

Daggers’ home form has been a concern for quite some time and Burnett has called for his players to deliver a more consistent 90-minute display.

In defeats to Cambridge and Exeter, Daggers dominated the first half before they were beaten.

Burnett is hoping they can start performing more solidly at Victoria Road and not just for one half of football.

“I am sick and tired of saying our home form needs to improve because everyone knows it already. Maybe if I stop saying that it will improve,” he added.

“We have to be good at home if we are going to achieve anything and we have played well in patches and in periods, but we need to be consistent over 90 minutes.

“I don’t expect us to be brilliant for the whole 90, but if we can be solid for the majority and not good and then average, we will start getting points.”
