Darren Currie wants another three points when Victoria Road outfit go to Tranmere this weekend

Daggers assistant manager Darren Currie feels they have enough talent to secure their Football League status for another season soon – so they do not have to wait until the final weeks of the campaign.

A 2-0 win against Hartlepool United in midweek moved Wayne Burnett’s side on to the 40-point mark and six points clear of the relegation places.

Currie believes they need three or four more victories from their remaining 12 matches to secure safety and although a point at Tranmere Rovers this weekend would be seen as a decent result, Daggers will be going all out to pick up three points.

“With the players we have – the boys up top – you do feel someone like Jamie Cureton has always got a goal in him,” Currie said.

“The way our wide men, Ashley Hemmings and Luke Howell, are playing we do look a threat, so we will be confident.

“Saturday is another must-win game, but they are all must-win.

“You go into all of these games wanting a win and until we get three or four more wins on the board and realise we are in a more comfortable position we will attack every game like it is a must-win.”

Daggers’ play against Hartlepool wasn’t vintage, but they did enough to get an important victory.

Currie wants them to get back on a run now, after defeats to Mansfield Town and Burton Albion halted their impressive momentum from February – where they went five matches unbeaten.

He believes this weekend’s clash at Prenton Park could be ugly at times, but is backing Daggers’ players to do both sides of the game.

“Tranmere will be no different to Hartlepool in the sense that it will probably be a bit ugly and scrappy at times,” added Currie.

“But we have the players that can roll up their sleeves and we have also got the players that can pass the ball and attack when we need to.

“We had gone eight or nine games with consistent form and we have had a couple of blips recently.

“But we feel we are back and we have got another win (against Hartlepool) and it is about starting another run now.”

Back-to-back victories would be huge for Daggers and could really give them some breathing space at the foot of the table.

But they may have to do without skipper Abu Ogogo after his hamstring gave him trouble against Mansfield and forced him to miss out on Tuesday night.

Currie added: “He will be honest and obviously the physio will have a good look at him and will do some work leading up to Saturday.

“Tranmere will be another huge game. We’re fully aware of that and the lads can get their rest and go into Saturday nice and confident after the Harlepool win.”
