Jack Connors in Republic of Ireland U21 squad for friendly with Norway this evening
Dagenham & Redbridge defender Jack Connors is set to represent his country again this evening when Republic of Ireland under-21’s take on Norway U21’s in an international friendly in Drammen.
The full-back played the full 90 minutes against Germany last month in Ireland’s final Group Six match of their UEFA European U21 qualifying campaign.
It was Connors second appearance for the U21’s and although he wasn’t able to prevent his national team losing 2-0, he feels settled with the squad ahead of tonight’s match with Norway, which kicks-off at 6pm.
He said: “I feel a part of it and obviously we are the new boys coming in for this campaign so it is good.
“The boys are all good and it is a good experience to play with players at this level.
“Hopefully (I can earn a senior call-up) but we will have to wait and see.
“I never thought I would get called up for the Republic of Ireland U21’s when I first came to Dagenham so I am just taking it as it goes.”
Connors believes international football is different compared to the typical style of League Two and he is grateful that his club performance have been recognised with another call-up.
“Just to get recognised is great,” admitted the Daggers defender.
“The standard is a lot different to League Two style of play. It is a lot slower.
“You get more time on the ball and it is more technical. Everything is played on the floor more or less.”
Connors will hope to get a chance this evening and is set to be available for Daggers league clash at Accrington Stanley on Saturday.
