Southport book tie at Victoria Road

Dagenham & Redbridge will host Conference Premier outfit Southport in the first round of the FA Cup, after the Merseyside club overcame Conference North Tamworth on penalties last night.

The two non-league teams drew 1-1 on Saturday and couldn’t be separated again last night at Haig Avenue, as they drew 1-1 after extra time.

That led to penalties kicks and the Conference Premier side ran out 4-2 winners to book a clash with Daggers at Victoria Road.

The first round match is due to take place on November 8, but that is subject to change if the game is televised.

Daggers have played Southport before in the FA Cup back in the 2001/02 campaign and ran out 1-0 winners.

The two clubs also clashed in the 2006/07 season when the Victoria Road club earned promotion to the Football League.
