Doidge hoping to build on first goal in the Football League

After scoring his first goal for the club on Tuesday night against Luton Town, Dagenham & Redbridge forward Christian Doidge is hoping to obtain a starting place in Wayne Burnett’s team.

The 22-year-old made a positive impact at Kenilworth Road and although his powerful header was a mere consolation in the 3-1 defeat, it gave everybody a timely reminder of his talents.

And the Welsh forward knows how to get into the starting Daggers team, he said: “By coming on and scoring goals and hopefully help Dagenham win games.

“I have just got to get in the starting team and then grow on that.

“The goal was a blur to be honest, I can’t really remember but I will have to watch it back.

“I have settled in really well and I am really enjoying it I have just got to get in the team now and score more goals.”

Doidge admits it is a tough job trying to come on from the bench and save the day but he felt he didn’t do badly against Luton.

Another team in good form await this weekend, as Burnett’s team visit top of the table Wycombe Wanderers.

But the former Carmarthen Town forward believes Daggers can get back on track at Adams Park.

Doidge added: “Wycombe are right up there and we are right down the bottom so we have got to train hard and make things right.

“It is a really hard task but you just have to give it your all when you come on.

“It takes you a while to get into it but I thought I did alright when I got on (against Luton) and obviously got the goal but it wasn’t enough because it finished 3-1.”
