Dagenham & Redbridge midfielder Joss Labadie has been accused of biting Stevenage captain Ronnie Henry during yesterday’s League Two match.

The alleged incident occured deep into stoppage time at Lamex Stadium as Wayne Burnett’s team earned a 1-0 victory thanks to Luke Howell’s tap-in.

Labadie and Henry were battling for the ball near the corner flag and the Daggers midfielder sat on the ball. The two players clashed afterwards and Boro’s captain was seen showing officials his finger to suggest it had been bitten.

It was later confirmed by Stevenage manager Graham Westley that police were investigating the incident.

BBC quoted the Boro boss, who revealed his captain was in a “state of shock” about the exchange.

“Henry’s not in a good situation, he’s in the treatment room and he’s suffered quite a nasty injury,” said Westley.

“Ronnie was in a state of shock, you don’t expect to lose your finger and Ronnie was horrified by what has gone on because it’s a football match and he’s nearly lost his finger.”

Police were informed and conducted interviews after the full time whistle.

Labadie served a 10-match ban in March 2014 for biting Chesterfield’s Ollie Banks while playing for Torquay. He denied the charge, but was fined £2,000 and banned.

Hertfordshire Police are now investigating the matter, but it is unknown whether referee Dean Whitestone would have included the incident in his report.
