Daggers skipper Ogogo: Missing out on play-offs last season was a good thing

Dagenham & Redbridge skipper Abu Ogogo believes falling short of the play-offs may have been a blessing in disguise as he hopes they go at least one better this season.

The Daggers finished in a fine ninth-place, but going into the final month of the season they had a chance of making the end of season showdown.

Defeat at Wycombe effectively ended that hope, but with another year of experience under the belt of some of the youngsters at the club, Ogogo feels the Daggers will come back stronger for the disappointment of not reaching the play-offs.

“Last season play-offs was the aim and we just missed out in finishing ninth. But the aim doesn’t change this season, we still want the play-offs,” said Ogogo.

“Missing out last year was maybe a good thing for the boys, we know what it takes now to get in the play-offs and hopefully this year we can make it happen.

“We don’t really pay any attention to what everyone else thinks because we know what we are capable of.”

Despite the strong season, there’s been a number of arrivals and departures at the Daggers.

Eleven have made the switch to date, while 13 have headed for the exit door at Victoria Road, and though the gelling process may have taken longer than he hoped for, Ogogo feels everyone is beginning to click at just the right time.

“They have been a lot of new signings and the gaffer is still looking to bring in a few more. The trip to Spain helped and it was also great for team bonding,” he added.

“It’s taken a little bit longer then we’d like to gel but the players have been training together for sometime now and I think the new players are getting to know how we play.”
