Academy attacker impressed in Essex Senior Cup tie earlier this week

Dagenham & Redbridge under-17 academy player Jodi Jones will travel with the first team to Bury for tomorrow’s (Saturday) match after he was given a squad number.

Jones will wear number 32 and travel with Wayne Burnett’s team after impressing on Monday night in the fourth round of the Essex Senior Cup.

The attacker scored an excellent solo goal in the 2-1 victory against Waltham Abbey and also bagged a brace last weekend in the academy’s 4-3 defeat to Southend United.

Jones scored in Daggers’ FA Youth Cup defeat to Wealdstone earlier this month as well and has impressed Burnett.

When the Daggers boss spoke after the Essex Senior Cup victory, he praised the youngster.

“Jodi Jones done very well,” said Burnett after the Waltham Abbey match.

“He has been given an opportunity and he has taken it with both hands.”

Jones will hope to earn a place on the bench for tomorrow’s match at Gigg Lane, but will face plenty of competition following the arrivals of forward’s Patrick Agyemang and Alex Jakubiak on loan from Portsmouth and Watford respectively.
