Dagenham & Redbridge secured back-to-back wins for the first time since August 23 to move further away from the drop zone in League Two following a two-goal win against Bury.

Half-time substitute Alex Jakubiak opened the scoring on his league debut at Gigg Lane, after only joining the club on Thursday from Watford on a youth loan.

Jamie Cureton then doubled the lead midway through the second period to seal a precious three points for the Victoria Road outfit and move them up to 20th

Wayne Burnett picked the same team that defeated Carlisle United last weekend, but included new loan forward Patrick Agyemang and Jakubiak on the substitute’s bench.

Matt Partridge also returned, after serving a one-match ban, but skipper Abu Ogogo missed out again with a hip problem.

Brian Saah, who captained the team in Ogogo’s absence, had the first opportunity of note but headed wide from an early Daggers corner.

The hosts responded, though, through Danny Rose, but his shot inside the box was easily saved by Mark Cousins.

Joss Labadie then tried his luck from range but his effort failed to trouble home keeper Rob Lainton.

Rose came close again when Robert Milsom squared to him inside the box, but Cousins was able to save his low effort.

The hosts enjoyed a good spell after that strike and the away keeper again had to be on his toes in the 25th minute.

Daggers failed to clear a ball into the box and Daniel Nardiello tried to force home the opener, but Cousins blocked his effort and Burnett’s men survived.

It was third time lucky for Rose in the 33rd minute as he finally managed to put the ball into the net, but it was ruled out for offside.

And a minute before the break the hosts nearly opened the scoring when Nicky Adams crossed in, but no Bury player was on hand to tap-in and it remained goalless at half time.

Ade Yusuff was substituted at the break, with Jakubiak coming on for his Daggers debut.

Bury started the stronger and Nardiello crashed a header against the bar with Cousins well beaten, but Burnett’s side survived.

Craig Jones then headed Adams free kick wide as David Flitcroft’s team started to gain the upper hand.

But Jakubiak, who had only been on the pitch for 10 minutes, was to tap-in his first for the club from close range to put the visitors ahead at Gigg Lane.

It was just the 18-year-old’s second goal in the Football League, his first was for Oxford United against Daggers in August.

Danny Mayor was then shown a yellow card for stimulation in the box on the hour mark as the visitors eyed up back-to-back wins in the league for the first time since beating Hartlepool United and Mansfield Town at the start of the campaign.

Chambers came so close to doubling the lead in the 66th minute, but Jones was able to clear his effort off the line.

In the 74th minute the visitors did double their lead, with Cureton scoring for the second consecutive match.

The 39-year-old finished excellent for his seventh goal of the season to put Burnett’s men on the verge of another win.

Adams should have reduced the arrears for Flitcroft’s team 10 minutes from time, but fired over the bar when well placed.

Ageymang came on for his debut soon afterwards, replacing Cureton, as the minutes ticked away for the hots.

Nardiello almost pulled one back eight minutes from time with another header, however Scott Doe blocked his effort to keep it 2-0.

Five minutes were added on at Gigg Lane and Nathan Cameron crashed a header against the post from a corner in the first minute added on, but it wasn’t to matter as Daggers survived and secured an excellent three points on the road.
