Forward felt Wayne Burnett’s side were unlucky against Luton Town

Christian Doidge reflected on Dagenham & Redbridge’s bad luck during the 3-1 loss to Luton Town yesterday and felt on another day the scoreline could have been so different.

The 22-year-old forward headed in his first goal for the club in the 86th minute but it was too little too late as Wayne Burnett’s side were already three down.

However the Welshman didn’t think there was much between the two teams, just that the Hatters enjoyed more fortune in the opposition box.

“When luck is against you nothing falls your way but on another day I am sure a lot of us would have scored a lot more goals,” insisted Doidge.

“But away from home, 3-0 down we are not going to get any luck.

“I thought there wasn’t much in it to be honest. We gave them three goals basically.

“Any goal just before half time kills you but I think we did alright, we were just unlucky but we keep making silly mistakes in the last third.

“And we had to work really hard to make opportunities for ourselves but on another day I am sure we could have won that game.”

Doidge was pleased to score his first in the Football League for Daggers but overall disappointed with the result.

He added: “I really enjoyed it and I wish I could have celebrated it to be honest.

“But it is not about my first goal it is about the result. We lost 3-1 so really disappointed.

“I probably could have got another one but obviously I didn’t so I will take my one.”
